THE SINGULAR WE

The New Evolutionary Portals

A transparadigmatic transfinite exploration into the new kind of humankind

Humanity has entered an entire new phase of spirituality and spiritual evolution for which all of the ancient and modern spiritual traditions are simply inadequate or insufficient. You and I are an evolutionary bridge to a new kind of humanity that will come to be born in the next several generations. All my courses are an experiment in remaking ourselves in the mold of the new kind of humankind.

We were each born as a new portal for the possibility of being human. This possibility can only be realized through the cultivation and culmination of our individual singularity which is our own unique genius. We were thus born endowed with the potential for the realization of our genius through our self-cultivation and self-culmination.

The act of self-cultivation and self-culmination is the act of self-bestowment of genius. And that which is endowed must become bestowed in order to be realized.

When you were born you were actually only reproduced in the long chain of sexual reproduction across a vast span of time extending back to time immemorial. You were not yet really born when you were born. You come to be really born only when you give birth to your own self through the act of self-bestowing your own genius.

Genius is another name for soul. When you were reproduced, you were reproduced only with a potential for having your own soul. You must ensoul yourself to have a real, authentic soul.

Development of your own soul or bestowment of your own genius is the sacred promise with which and as which you have come into this world. To live a life of fulfillment is to fulfill this sacred promise.

In the 21st century, this self-bestowment of our genius, this self-ensoulment, takes on a unique new dimension—the dimension of SINGULAR WE. “I am that I am” is no longer sufficient. It is I AM THAT WE ARE beyond “I am that I am.”

The WE becomes the evolutionary fulfillment of your authentic singular individual self, as you as a Monad contain the Whole and hence humanity and the world.

The WE is not the collection of I’s. The SINGULAR WE becomes and is the authentic self-identity of the singular authentic I. In the SINGULAR WE both limited individualism and collectivism are transcended.

THE SINGULAR WE is the new evolutionary portal that is designed to completely unify individual and collective transformation in the creative spirit and practice of your signature infinite play for the eventual creation of Omnicentric Synarchy—Sovereign Integral of Sovereign Individuals.

Beyond enlightenment, there is eternal wonderment. In eternal wonderment, there is playful engagement in the genetic-epigenetic field of cosmic creation and evolution. The purpose of engagement is engaging to play together. The experience of engagement is creative enjoyment. The outcome of engagement is the ongoing transformation of WE.

Let the play begin! Let’s play!

The Cosmic Good

The universe is a cosmic womb in which consciousness-in-form creatively evolves. In the cosmic scheme of human existence, the only true Good that we can perform is to evolve our consciousness to the highest level possible as a human being in behalf of all of humanity.

Creation is the Sacred consecrating. Evolution is the Divine divining. The motion pattern (patter/father) of creation and evolution, or involution and evolution, and the matter (mater/mother) of which the forms become in-formed and materialized, constitute the primordial dyad.

You are a microcosm or a monad as a unit of creation. You are microcosmic as a unit process of creative evolution. As you, the sacred is consecrating your whole being and the divine divining your whole life.

Resonate with the sacred and divine celestial music of creative evolution resounding within you.

Then, only then, you perform and fulfill the only true Good, the cosmic Good, that is the sacred promise, the divine covenant, with which you have come into existence as a singular cosmic destiny, never to be repeated, ever again, in the whole Life of the Universe.

Freedom & Responsibility

Freedom is the will to self-responsibility. —Friedrich Nietzsche

Freedom

The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them.

—Thomas Jefferson

Freedom is the soul’s ideal dwelling and proper destiny.

The soul is the highest principle of individual consciousness. Freedom is the state of consciousness in which the soul is not attached to or bound by any of the lower principles such as the senses, feelings, emotions, desires, and automatic currents of thought.

The soul’s freedom does not mean that you are not bound to a Principle that is higher than your soul. The soul’s freedom is found when you make all thoughts arising in your soul be bound to a higher Principle or a higher Being of which the Soul is the cosmic individuation.

You will find that in the act and state of being bound to a higher Principle, which is Freedom itself, you experience authentic freedom all around.

Being bound to the higher Principle, you realize that yesterday has no power over today or tomorrow, that the past has no power over how you live your life in the present or in the future. The past seems to have power only because you give it a power. That power does not come from the past, because the past does not exist in reality.

The past exists only in and as memory, and memory exists primarily as reference. Memory has intrinsic values and utilities as reference but has no intrinsic power. Without memory you would lose the sense of temporal continuity and of self-identity in time. You use your memory to guide your present action.

Yet, memory in itself has no power to dictate or determine your present action. In truth you are free to begin your life anew right now. To know this is the beginning of your freedom—of fulfilling your soul’s longing to be free.

The Responsibility Principle

The Now in which God created the first man and the Now in which the last man will disappear and the Now in which I am speaking—all are the same in God, and there is only one Now.

—Meister Eckhart

Be not the slave of your own past. Plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old.

—R Ralph Waldo Emerson

Freedom is not a static condition which once achieved can be retained, but is a dynamic state which must be attained ever anew. The locus in which you attain freedom is always and only the Now, which is never a part of time.

The Now in which you attain freedom is not a moment in time but the momentum arising in the Eternal that produces reaction past and resultant future in the apparent flow of time. Thus, to be free is to be in the Now—the eternal, atemporal Now.

Freedom is the soul’s ideal dwelling and proper destiny. Life is the atemporal (timeless/eternal) present in the temporal (time). The soul is the cosmic medium of Life’s teleportation between the atemporal and the temporal. Freedom is the state of the soul being that teleportation medium with conscious awareness.

You may ask: “How can I be in the Now and be free?” You can be in the Now and be free if you be an agent of responsibility. This is the Responsibility Principle. Responsibility is the Principle of Freedom.

Responsibility is the ability to “promise” or “make a commitment” (spond) “anew” (re-). Responsibility involves and implies the ability to create a future anew by making and acting from a new commitment.

A new commitment means a commitment that is made anew or recreated in every successive moment of time, in the Now, until an entire new situation arises which calls for an entirely new commitment.

When you are not responsible, you react to the past, from the past, in the present. When you react, your life becomes a repetitive extension and a karmic reenactment of your past.

Reactivity is of time, whereas responsibility is not. Reactivity arises as an inertial momentum in time, whereas Responsibility arises as a generative momentum of the timeless.

The reactive mode of existence is the mode of victimhood in which one perceives oneself to be helplessly swept away by the external forces of nature, society, or history.

A victim is one who, having forfeited one’s innate responsibility, sees oneself not responsible for one’s lot in life. A victim is first a victim of one’s past which, one thinks, has ineluctably and inexorably led one to where one is, for which one claims little or no responsibility.

A sense of being a victim, or victim consciousness, is rooted in the deep recesses of the collective human psyche, the race consciousness, because we presume that the past determines the future while we believe that we cannot change the past. While it is true that we cannot change events of the past, it is not true that the past determines the present or the future.

The past also changes because you can change your present interpretation of past events. Your past is in your memory which only arises in the present. If you change the way how you view or interpret past events, you are in actuality changing the past or your experience of the past.

Amor Fati & The Eternal Recurrence

Freedom arises when you choose your past exactly the way it has been and love your fate as it has befallen upon you. This is Nietzsche’s Amor Fati, the love of your fate without any reservation. You love your fate and your life so much that you welcome the Eternal Recurrence of your life.

With Amor Fati, by choosing your past and your fate, exactly and entirely, you remake your past and thereby you free yourself from your past and your fate. A new destiny becomes open for you. And by thus accepting and welcoming the Eternal Recurrence, you reconcile with everyone in your life and everything in the universe, and thereby you free yourself from the cyclic karmic repetitions.

Thus, you have freedom with respect to the past as well as to the future, and freedom is always in and of the Now. You can become an agent, a causative agent, of change, and thus of Responsibility, in respect to the past as well as the present and the future.

The state of being an agent of Responsibility is termed “agency” in psychology. Agency is the antipodal, or the exact opposite, state of victimhood. Thus the road to freedom is the path of inner revolution from victimhood to agency.

If you find yourself powerless, helpless, or unfree in some areas of your life, it is a sign that you are being prevailed over by some form of victim consciousness. Regardless of the situation or circumstance, so long as you perceive yourself to be a victim, you are relinquishing your Responsibility, your power to change the situation for yourself.

When you become an agency, you become the agent of change. Even if nothing external can be changed for the time being in a certain situation, you can still be free, because when you are responsible, you can intend and take full Responsibility for the present situation to be exactly the way it is and the way it is not.

You therefore become the master, and no longer the slave, of the situation. When you consciously intend the situation, or the way your life actually is, to be exactly the way it is and the way it is not, amazingly, you become filled with gratitude for all that is already bestowed upon you. You become reconciled and at peace with the whole of existence.

Then, as if magically and miraculously, your life begins to actually change because you yourself have been transformed. You are no longer a victim, and you are in charge of your life which is blessed with all the gifts already given to you.

Your life, your destiny, is the out-picturing and the external expression of the inner state of your being. As you change, so does your life.

Thus the road to freedom is the road of freedom. It is unpaved. It is a pathless path created only in your journey of freedom. Because of the nature of freedom, wherein Responsibility, and thus self-generation and self-creation, is essential, the road of freedom is the road that you construct and pave along the way of your journey. You are fully responsible for creating your road of freedom.

Freedom, you must therefore earn and attain for yourself by being an agent of Responsibility. If you claim full Responsibility for the entirety of your life, right now, you shall be free to start your whole life anew. If we each claim full Responsibility for the entirety of human life on earth, right now, we will be free to write a whole new human history.

You will love your life, your fate, Amor Fati, while you create your destiny in line with your singular cosmic destiny. You will look forward to the Eternal Recurrence of your life, while you live in the Now in freedom as the momentum of eternity. Then and thus, your Soul’s longing to be free shall be fulfilled.

A New Revolution

Virtually all critical problems that we have today arise within the framework of duality (e.g., the haves vs. the have-nots) and virtually all discussions that we have in order to solve those problems arise within the framework of duality (e.g., capitalism vs. socialism).

Thus, the problem, the diagnosis, and the solution come to exist inside the same dualistic paradigm and the same antagonistic framework. Therefore we see two parties come together to fight over how to bring peace to the world.

The American Revolution took place as a societal expression of the Newtonian Scientific Revolution in the Age of Reason. We still think in the language of the 18th and 19th century. The language used and the logic expressed in economics and political science are still that of the Newtonian Age, and it is the language and logic of duality.

The next societal revolution, the societal revolution of the 21st century, will need a different language, a different logic, a different paradigm. As the American Revolution of the 18th century was an extension of the Scientific Revolution of the 17th and 18th centuries, so will be the next revolution an extension of the Quantum Revolution of the 20th century.

A new revolution that defines the 20th century began on December 14th, 1900, when the physicist Max Planck presented his work on black body radiation at the German Physical Society in Berlin, which led to the development of quantum physics that has had a profound, epochal, and lasting influence not only in the fields of physics, science, and human knowledge, but also in the very logic that underlies thought: “quantum logic” that transcends the seeming contradiction of quantum particles being simultaneously particular and wavier (in the quantum, not the classical, sense).

The ternary logic that transcends duality has existed for millennia in the East and the West, in the esoteric philosophical traditions, but the inquiry into this “quantum paradox” brought to the fore the transcendental ternary logic of ‘the included middle’—into the domain of rational discourses outside and beyond the obscure ancient esoteric spiritual philosophies or metaphysics. Transcending duality is no longer only a matter of individual spiritual/philosophical enlightenment but an urgent issue of collective societal transformation and evolution.

What I call the transparadigmatic omnicentric state of mind or consciousness and the omnicentric synarchical world are possible only when a significant percentage of humanity begins to think and act transdualistically. There are 6,000 distinct languages and 10,000 distinct ethnic cultures, and in-between there are 8,000 academic disciplines to study everything. It is utterly ridiculous and futile to try to centrally control the destiny of humanity and the world (“world government”). What is required is translinguistic, transcultural, and transdiciplinary approach for which the transparadigmatic mind is essential.

For this reason, within this transparadigmatic framework, I support everyone’s attempt at creating a new world in the spirit of alignment beyond agreement, while pursuing my individual path that is the creation and advancement of the omnicentric and synarchical freeorder in the world, for which laissez-faire free market economy is a partial precursor. Those who share the same orientation can join me. Those who do not, I support you wholeheartedly so long as you do not interfere with my/our path. An open and rational criticism is welcome. And I/we will not interfere with your path, while I/we will reserve the right to offer you a constructive criticism.

There will arise a cooperative competition amongst various approaches and we will continue to dynamically integrate and improve what works from our and your approaches, while we will continue to discard what does not work. And thus we participate, in alignment beyond agreement, in the continual evolution of the world.

Heal Thine Own Self, Heal Thine Own World

Healing is a function of communication, whereas disease is a manifest breakdown in and of communication. The state of the health of a system, be it physical, psychic, or social/societal, is the entire network of communication as which the system exists being wholly functional and every part of the system being heard and touched.

Healing is a function of communication that touches the hearts of both the speaker and the listener. Such communication is an expression of compassion. To be compassionate means to simply allow other people to touch your heart in your listening so deeply and totally that you also touch their hearts.

Healing occurs through this compassionate mutual touching of your and their hearts.

Generations after generations, humanity has suffered from and been traumatized by physical and psychical violence—which is a destructive disruption in and of communication. In war parties and peoples cease to communicate and instead appeal to violence and destruction.

The first half of the 20th century was especially severe in this regard with the two world wars, combined with the great depression and the influenza epidemic, because of which hundreds of millions of people had perished or been damaged. And the chain reactions of violence and war have continued throughout the 20th century until today, engulfing the whole planet.

Humanity has not recovered from that humongous (huge and monstrous) trauma. It is not too far from truth to state that a significant percentage of the human population suffers from a collective post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). And people who suffer from PTSD tend to exhibit a host of psychological and behavioral dysfunctional symptoms that used to be associated with neurosis or even psychosis.

In many cases, even when those with PTSD are treated by other people with nothing but good will, kindness, and generosity, they still react with ill will, attacking and retaliating for reasons that are delusionary or illusionary. Their reaction is totally irrational and has nothing whatsoever to do with the actual person or the actual situation, and yet they become triggered and react.

On the unconscious level they become triggered by and react to the misperceived reactivation or reenactment of the past traumas. Their reaction is the personification or the individualization of the generational karmic repetitions of the collective trauma. Thus physical and psychic violence karmically continues. There are wars within and without being waged in all scales at all times.

Today we come across so many people involved in the work of improving or transforming the world who have nevertheless never resolved or healed their own psychological issues related to their past traumas. Those unresolved issues and unhealed traumas cast dark shadows over not only their own personal lives but also over the work in which they are involved.

The world needs healing but those who are internally unhealed cannot possibly heal the world. There are people engaged in various forms of social activism precisely in order to evade the responsibility of self-healing and to avoid the necessary work of facing and resolving their own wounds. They project their own inner turmoil out onto the world, conjure up the guilty targets to blame (e. g. capitalism, inequality, racism, etc.) and then find righteous causes in which to get lost.

There exist too many “change agents” (or “do-gooders”) who carry within their inner psyche an unresolved conflict and untamed violence, which nullifies the possibility of real change and the potential for being an authentic agency. Therefore, be aware of the pattern of imposing yourself to be an agent of change without first healing yourself.

This is what is meant by the statement “Be the change you want to make.”

As healing is a function of communication that touches the hearts of both the speakers and the listeners, so let us start communicating with one another in such a manner that we can touch and be touched.

As healing is a function of communication as an expression of compassion, so let us cultivate compassion toward all of humanity and sentient beings, including and starting with our own self.

Healing begins with self-healing—through self-communication, through self-touch, and therefore through self-compassion—by being open to touch and be touched by self and others.

Heal thine own self. Then heal thine own world.

The Banality of Evil Pervading the World

The philosopher Hannah Arendt in The Origins of Totalitarianism states:

“The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the dedicated Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction, true and false, [right and wrong], no longer exist.”

She concludes her final work The Life of the Mind:

“The sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil.”

This is what she called the “banality of evil”. The contemporary philosopher Jack Made, in commenting on Hannah Arendt states:

“The ‘banality of evil’ is the idea that evil does not have the Satan-like, villainous appearance we might typically associate it with. Rather, evil is perpetuated when immoral principles become normalized over time by unthinking people. Evil becomes commonplace; it becomes the everyday. Ordinary people — going about their everyday lives — become complicit actors in systems that perpetuate evil.”

This is happening today all around the world on a massive scale. And yet those who should know better—the “intellectuals” and the “leaders” of communities and industries—live comfortably in the ‘unbearable shallowness of being’.

They avoid confrontation with the depth of reality as well as with other humans in any meaningful way, including those who promote themselves as “philosophical” to their peers vaingloriously. They choose success inside the corrupt system that provides them with wealth, recognition, and status over working to resolve the real issues that cause massive suffering.

The prime mover of the world, and therefore history, is IDEA. Today the economic-political power centers have completely taken over the ideological power centers—the academia & the media. The global totalitarian tyranny propagates a certain ideology, programmed into the minds of both youths and adults, transforming itself from an ideology to a psychology.

We who have the commitment to a systemic transformation, within & without, should not partake of the corrupt system, within & without. Those who avoid confronting the evil within & without, those who can comfortably dwell in the “unbearable shallowness of being”, and those who are unwilling to delve deep into the root causes of things (this is the definition of being radical), are not qualified to be engaged in and to lead the work of transformation of any kinds.

Before the Morning Twilight

Before the morning twilight the night is the darkest. This moment feels like that darkest moment as though the whole of humanity is undergoing the collective dark night of the soul. Many people are mentally confused and emotionally distressed. Some people face financial ruins. They are fearful, angry, and depressed.

We must endure with fortitude for a while longer and help one another however we can. By liberating ourselves from dependency on institutions to mutual dependency, even if by necessity, we will reestablish the basic social fabric of interdependency of which humanity as human-unity is woven and interwoven.

Friedrich Nietzsche states in Twilight of the Idols, “That which does not kill me makes me stronger.” Aligned with Nietzsche, this moment in our lives and in human history is precisely the moment to overcome nihilism on all levels and to radically reaffirm and exalt human life and our lives together.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil

“It can be hard for us to conceive of people who actually intend and “get off” on performing acts of evil, but our difficulty in seeing this is due to our lack of, in Jung’s words, “imagination for evil.” Our inability to imagine that such people actually exist serves evil, as it gives them the cover of darkness and obscurity that they desperately crave.”- Paul Levy

You all know about the Three Wise Monkeys or Three Mystic Apes (Koizumi Yakumo/小泉 八雲), a Japanese pictorial maxim of “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.”

In Japanese, this maxim reads “mizaru, kikazaru, iwazaru”, in which the “-zaru” is a negative conjugation on the three verbs, matching zaru, the modified form of saru (猿) “monkey” used in compounds. Thus, “見ざる, 聞かざる, 言わざる” becomes “見猿, 聞か猿, 言わ猿”.

This maxim, this “teaching”, leads people to refuse to face the reality of evil, and reject to see the truth about evil. This teaching is designed to keep people ignorant of the reality and truth concerning evil by programming them for the automatic denial (auto/self-denial) of evil. This teaching is thus a programming of the mental pattern of self-denial and self-deception.

Another version includes the fourth principle of “do no evil” or “sezaru/せざる”, demonstrated by the fourth monkey crossing its arms or covering its genitals, symbolically meaning: “Conceal your natural pleasure and simple joy of life. Pretend in order to be accepted by and to conform to society. Don’t be natural and authentic; otherwise you will be rejected and ostracized.”

Thus, not only people stop seeing, hearing, speaking, or doing (real or believed) evil but also they start rejecting and hiding (real or believed) evil within. It is not that people lack the imagination or the ability to see evil but that they self-deny their imagination and their ability to see it.

The mental program of self-denial and “willful” ignorance (“ignoring”) is now running automatically in the minds of people.

Tao & Enantiodromia

Today so many people are frustrated, angry, and depressed. Though understandable, they need not be, because they are each a Source of the Light of Awareness within and without.

Inner Awareness

Despite all the politico-economic calamities happening in the world, Reality contains the Grandeur and Beauty that is transcendental. The Universe is dramatic, that is, suspenseful, and the cosmic drama of this Dramatic Universe is categorically greater and more magnificent than all the human drama, which is a phase of the cosmic experiment in the evolution of consciousness.

Your world, that singular world, which appeared with your birth and will disappear with your death contains, and is contained by, the Universe with all its Beauty and Grandeur. Every singular moment of your life contains, and is contained by, the Eternal and the Infinite. And with this realization, there emerges a sense of Awe, Reverence, and Gratitude.

Outer Awareness

“Reversal is the movement of the Tao.” – Tao Teh Ching (Verse 40).

Heraclitus had the same realization, which Joannes Stobaeus called Enantiodromia – when a movement reaches its extreme, it reverses its direction. Heraclitus wrote, “Cold things warm, warm things cool, wet things dry and parched things get wet.”

Today the movement of tyranny is fast reaching and in many areas has reached its extreme on the global scale. The Movement of the Tao, the Reversal, the Enantiodromia, is now taking place, which is no longer invisible. This is the collective dark night of the soul that humanity is enduring but the dawn will come.

It is crucial and necessary that we align our mind and consciousness with the Enantiodromia, the Reversal, the Movement of the Tao, toward Liberty that is gaining momentum, and think and act from that consciousness, that awareness, while remaining cognizant of the happenings of the world.

Keeping Sanity in an Insane World

Excess Stress, Mass Neurosis, and Cultural Decadence

It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. ― J. Krishnamurti

The term “Neurosis” was eliminated from The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in 1980 with the publication of DSM III. Whatever the official medical-psychiatric reasons may be, it is ironic that neurosis as such is no longer considered a class of mental disorder.

When the majority of the population suffers from a certain mental disorder, it becomes normalized. Thus, we can restate Krishnamurti’s above quote:

It is no measure of mental health to be well adjusted to and normal in a profoundly neurotic society.

Wikipedia states:

“There are many different neuroses: obsessive-compulsive disorder, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, impulse control disorder, anxiety disorder, hysteria, and a great variety of phobias. . . .

“[T]he symptoms of neurosis may involve: anxiety, sadness or depression, anger, irritability, mental confusion, low sense of self-worth, etc., behavioral symptoms such as phobic avoidance, vigilance, impulsive and compulsive acts, lethargy, etc., cognitive problems such as unpleasant or disturbing thoughts, repetition of thoughts and obsession, habitual fantasizing, negativity and cynicism, etc. . .”

There is a pandemic of mass neurosis pervading our world. The ‘coronavirus panic pandemic’ would not have been possible without this ‘mass neurosis pandemic’. The neurotic people are tormented by fear and therefore, through fear-mongering, can easily be manipulated, provoked, and incited into mass hysteria, which is what this “coronavirus pandemic” actually is—a mass hysteria of a global proportion.

What is the etiology of neurosis? Since neurosis as such is no longer psychiatrically a mental disorder, a non-psychiatrist or a non-psychologist can offer a diagnosis without his non-license taken away!

So, in my view, neurosis is the various reactions of the human organism or the human brain-mind system to the condition of prolonged excess stress. There is a natural limit to the amount and degree of stress that the human organism can effectively process, which limit was set millennia ago in our evolutionary past.

Virtually everyone, living ambitiously in the collectivist modern world in pursuit of the mimetic desire for social and professional success and status, especially in highly populated and busy cities, lives with constant excess stress, far exceeding the natural limit that the human organism can process. Various neurotic thoughts and behaviors are rather normal reactions to an abnormal condition, i.e., chronic excess stress, which the human organism has to take but is unable to process.

The life and the lifestyle of constant high pressure and excess stress have been so normalized that people do not even notice the madness, the insanity, to which they expose themselves almost on a daily basis. A significant percentage of the population is in fact addicted to chronic excess stress. They live neurotic lives without ever realizing how abnormal it is to live in that way.

Normalization of the abnormal is the way or the process by which the culture becomes decadent and the society becomes destroyed. Look at the productions of the entertainment industry. Look at the creations of the art world. Highly neurotic people are producing and creating movies, music, and artwork that are in essence self-aggrandizement of the neurotic and self-congratulation of the abnormal. They go beyond the normalization of the abnormal; they super-normalize it or hyper-normalize it.

The decadence of today, unlike in the past, is less about hedonism than anhedonia: the inability to feel pleasure and experience happiness; the experience of utter disengagement from the world of reality and the transmutation of all experience, including the corporeal, into hollow onanistic aestheticization.

This decadence is not just about drugs, sexual perversions, or fast food, though its manifestation includes them. Rather, it is about disembodiment, about the disconnection from the sense of the real that allows our society not only to abandon real cultural innovation but also to distract people from its meaningful teleological aspiration. The decadence also involves institutional and societal corruption and decay, and cultural and intellectual exhaustion at a high level of material prosperity and technological advancement.

This decadence is most prominently exemplified in the way in which the digital space has provided a theater of ‘politics as performance’ and the reactionary and atavistic social-justice crusaders are able to participate in a simulacrum of heroism—a kind of digital-age playacting wherein dissatisfied young people pretend to be Marxist, socialist, or fascists on the Internet, re-enacting the 1930s and 1960s with fewer kinetics but more memes. The “woke culture” or the “cancel culture” is the most contemporary example of this simulacrum of heroism.

To be a revolutionary in the late 18th century required a great deal of courage and valor as well as real independent thinking. The independence in The Declaration of Independence was not only national but also individual. To be a social justice warrior in the early 21st century, on the other hand, only lend excuses and justifications to people to be self-righteously craven and poltroon, and comfortably in the neurotic hive mind collective.

The question is: How can we help people free themselves from this mass neurosis and decadent mass culture so as to restore sanity within and without?

Leaving the Crowd and Claiming Your Individuality

In the state of excess stress, human consciousness devolves. What happens? The collective unconscious hacks the individual subconscious, or the secondary consciousness, which in turn hacks the primary consciousness of the individual—the seat of conscious awareness, reason and conscience, namely, of rationality and morality.

That is, the ego, the locus of self-consciousness, becomes the placeholder to the secondary consciousness within the primary consciousness. The ego becomes the collective unconscious being placed inside the primary individual consciousness. The ego becomes a collectivist (a hive mind dweller), psychologically, and prone to collectivism, ideologically. Consequentially, the ego loses touch with the seat of reason and conscience and becomes irrational and immoral (the secondary consciousness is amoral).

As the psychologist Boris Sidis first identified, “Mob-energy rises as the powers of the mass.” Whereas the masses increase in an arithmetical progression, the energies of the masses increase in a geometrical progression. That is, the masses grow as the logarithms of their energies. Ergo, if M is the mass of the mob, then M = Log E.

The more one partakes of the crowd, actually (physically) or virtually (digitally), the more the irrational and amoral secondary consciousness takes over the rational and moral primary consciousness. And the more one tends to succumb to the control and dictate of the hive mind/herd energy collective of which one is an undifferentiated part.

Therefore, in order to restore rationality and maintain sanity, we must leave (the madness of) the crowd and be alone, and claim or reclaim our individuality and individual space, within and without. We must find a space and time for solitude, to be alone in the universe and centered in our primary consciousness, in the awake, aware, rational self, in tune with the Law of Nature and of Nature’s God (Tao), away from the confused noises of culture and of culture’s icons.

This means that we need to make space for meditation and time for doing things that we love to do in solitude or in semi-solitude.

Meditation and Timeless

What is meditation? Meditation is a vacation from (sequential) time. Meditation is a time-out from all that comes with time, such as planning and achieving goals.

Meditation is the engagement with the Timeless, the Eternal, in the Now. Meditation is the act of attuning with the Infinite, the Openness, in the Here.

Time is the basic program that runs human existence. In meditation, time shows itself as the disturbance of Eternity. In meditation, you become undisturbed by time.

Meditation involves that you return to the pristine state of being wherein you are in tune with the Eternal and the Infinite. To bring-in any kind of goals or aims to the act of meditation is to corrupt it.

Meditation is a pure act of freedom. You meditate because you meditate. In meditation, you be cause. You choose to do nothing and just be. And to thus be is to be free.

Meditation is the act of being with yourself and with everything that is in your consciousness. Meditation is thus the act of being with Reality in its wholeness. You can also say: Meditation is the act of being alone (all-one) with God.

Where there is no time, there can never be any stress. Thus, I highly recommend that you meditate—that you find time to take a vacation from time in the Timeless.

Love and Beauty

To love and to be loved are two of the most profound longings of our soul. At the heart of chronic stress and neurosis there is fear. There is no medicine greater and more powerful than love that can ease and heal the person tormented by fear.

The way of love is the way of generosity and magnanimity. Generosity is the virtue of giving freely, while magnanimity is the virtue of forgiving freely. The degree to which we experience love in life is proportional to the magnitude of our generosity and magnanimity. To know love, we need to open our heart and suffuse it with generosity and magnanimity.

Those of us fortunate enough to have a spouse, a family, or a circle of friends who love us and whom we love, should spend as much quality time as possible with them. And extend our love to our communities where we can make an impact.

Also, we all have things we love to do. Doing what we love to do is so essential for maintaining sanity. I love classical music. There is no piece of classical music I do not like. I enjoy listening to classical music almost every day. Bach, Beethoven, and Rachmaninov are my three most favorite composers. Their souls harmonically resonate with my soul.

Reading great books is another activity that I love. For me, the beauty of expression is as important as the originality of thought or the depth of wisdom. For this reason, for me, Alexander Pope, Ralph Emerson, or Friedrich Nietzsche is as great as it comes. One reason why reading of the founding documents of the United States is such a pleasure is the high quality of writing. Many of the Founding Fathers were not only great philosophers but also great writers. Thomas Paine is one of my all-time favorite philosophers and writers.

Love is the ultimate Good as it reflects our highest value, and by surrounding ourselves with Beauty that invokes Love in us, we immerse ourselves in Goodness which is the wellspring of our spiritual wellbeing.

A survey of philosophical literature throughout the ages confirms that however different the accounts of beauty may seem on the surface, with a surprising regularity, the descriptions agree upon presenting beauty as a coincidentia oppositorum—a paradoxical unity and a transcendental consilience of elements that would otherwise seem to stand in irreconcilable opposition.

As Friedrich Schiller articulated, beauty fulfills our humanity in all of its irreducible complexity. However paradoxical it may seem, beauty satisfies our desire for enlivenment, movement, change, surprise, and novelty, while simultaneously our longing for rest, stillness, permanence, stability, and familiarity.

According to Thomas Aquinas, the Beautiful represents a kind of hybrid between the Good and the True. Beauty is Beauty because it contains both truth and good. Further, Truth is Truth because it contains both beauty and good; and Good is Good because it contains both beauty and truth.

Beauty is truth and good perceived in the world of appearance. Truth is beauty and good conceived in the world of abstraction. Good is beauty and truth achieved in the world of action.

Beauty is an intimate encounter of the human soul with Reality, actual and possible, which takes place in the meeting ground of appearance. In that intimate encounter, in the experience of Beauty, there is Love, there is Reconciliation, and there is Healing. In Beauty sanity becomes restored.

Liberty to Be Earned

The majority of humanity lives in a hypnotic trance, taking a simulacrum of reality as actual reality. They live in a collective dream wherein values are inverted, lies are believed as truth, and tyranny is accepted as security. They become entrained and even entertained in their metaphysical slumber and slumberous ignorance. Having long been victimized as a hostage, they cling to their misery and suffering that give them their identity and meaning.

“The Great Awakenings” of the past, starting with that of the 1730s, were all religious revivals, which means that they were all in the direction of deeper dogmatic beliefs, which in turn means that they were in the vector of internal unfreedom and slavery.

None of the American Revolutionary Founders and Framers was part of the Great Awakening. In fact, many of them were condemned as “infidels” by the fanatical leaders of the “Great Awakening” such as Jonathan Edwards.

The Founders and Framers who made the American Revolution possible were “Freethinkers” and they were literally a minority, uniquely exemplifying Arnold Toynbee’s “Creative Minority”. (Toynbee was a collectivist, and hence I used “uniquely” to give an ironic twist to his concept of “creative minority”.)

We must not mistake that it was the Great Awakening/Religious Revival of the 1730s and 1740s that made the American Revolution possible, and we must not repeat the same mistake today.

Liberty is not possible without a critical number of people being internally (i.e., psychologically, intellectually, and spiritually) free, while internal freedom is not possible without the individual being an authentic freethinker.

Liberty, we must deserve and earn, which means that we each must be internally free and be an authentic freethinker. If there are a sufficient number of freethinkers constituting the creative minority, the great American Restoration is possible.

Being a Leader

The Vision-In-Action Leaders Roundtable, August 2006
Led by Yasuhiko Genku Kimura

Day 1

From Lao Tzu (老子), Tao Teh Ching (道徳経), Verse 17 (translation by Yasuhiko Genku Kimura)

The supreme leader is one whose existence is barely known.
Next best is one who is loved and praised.
Next is one who is feared.
The last is one who is contemned.
No Trust will ever be accorded to a leader who lacks integrity.
Therefore, with deep commitment,
Honor your words and trust the words of others.
Then, when the work is done and success achieved,
The people will say, “We did it ourselves.”

To be a leader means to be authentic in the true meaning of the word, that is, to be the author of your own life, to be your own inner authority, and to live in integrity with your authentic higher self. It is that authenticity which powerfully attracts others to you—those others whose seeds of authenticity and leadership are growing within.

An omnicentric world civilization becomes possible only when a core group of such authentic leaders creates a new evolutionary vortex.

We do not change the world; rather the world changes through us. The world is not an object that we can change but the intersubjective field which changes and transforms as we change and transform ourselves.

Therefore, to be a change agent means to be a changing, self-transforming agent.

We must ourselves become dynamic evolutionary currents to engender a world dynamically thrusting for optimization in the co-intentional and co-destinal flow of conscious evolution.

The statement attributed to Mahatma Gandhi encaptures this well: Be the change you want to make.

The ultimate in creativity is the creativity that creates new perceptions of reality and visions of world. This creativity transcends and is more fundamental than any artform. It is the direct participation in the creative process of the universe. It is the foreseeing of a possibility arising as a new future in the cosmic evolution.

Evolution is synonymous with exploration. The more evolved we are in consciousness the further is the horizon of our exploration and the greater is our competency for exploration. I hold that the exploration of this vast physical-metaphysical uni-multiverse, and the concomitant evolution in and of consciousness, is the purpose of our cosmic existence. We are cosmic explorers and we should never forget this glorious assignment.

Day 2

From Awakening to the Highest Reaches of Integrity by Yasuhiko Genku Kimura:

On the road of integrity, you will find yourself often alone, but never lonely.
On the road of mediocrity, you will find yourself never alone, but often lonely.
The world, more than ever, awaits you who choose to travel the road least traveled,
ready to travel alone but always with arms open in joy.

The Japanese word “toku (徳)” (teh in Chinese), which is usually translated as “virtue,” also means “power” or “integrity.” Toku is the consciousness of the whole that makes your life coherent, consistent, and integral.

Therefore, toku is integrity, and toku is also power because through toku your vision, action, and result become coherent and consistent. Success in life and business requires power to make your vision realized through action. Success thus requires integrity in the sense of toku.

Thomas Jefferson in his Syllabus (1813) states:

Happiness the aim of life.
Virtue the foundation of happiness.
Utility the test of virtue.

Thomas Jefferson whose thought was profoundly influenced by Benedict de Spinoza via John Locke and other British philosophers who were influenced by Spinoza. His statement above from his Syllabus is a distillation of Spinoza’s thought on virtue, which was beautifully aligned with Lao Tzu’s concept of virtue.

Spinoza’s concept of Conatus, which Nietzsche termed the Will to Power, is the power or virtue that moves us toward self-preservation and self-realization. The virtue is to be in integrity with the conatus, the evolutionary power within, and the evolutionary will or desire to preserve and realize oneself.

Therefore, the virtue of Lao Tzu, Spinoza, and Jefferson is the virtue of integrity and authenticity. “The Law of Nature and of Nature’s God” in The Declaration of Independence, signifies the Law of Nature’s Conatus and Nature’s God is synonymous with Tao.

The English term “integrity” is defined on three levels: (1) being true to your principles; (2) being true to your word or commitment; and (3) being true to yourself.

Integrity means being true to your principle, your word, and yourself, and total integrity involves a total accord between these three levels of being true.

Men and women of integrity who have the power to sustain their commitment through to the end and achieve their objectives, sometime against all odds, are those in whom their principle, commitment, and self are all in accord. For we can sustain our commitment only when it is one that is in accord with our authentic self and with our deepest values and principles.

Therefore, unless it is an authentic expression of our self and unless it is consistent with our principles, our commitment is bound to be inauthentic. If our commitment is inauthentic, regardless of how much willpower we may have, we will probably be unable to sustain it. Thus, the essence of integrity is “to thine own self be true.”

We cannot be true to our own self without knowing our own self. That is, authentic self-knowledge is the requisite of integrity. In terms of our career, business, and personal development, the most effective way of attaining self-knowledge is to know our true passion and vision.

Passion arises through the realization of our authentic self as a creative vision. Vision is the call of our own evolutionary possibility that beckons us to be from the future. Vision is that which we envisage as the fulfillment of our evolutionary thrust for optimization.

When we become awakened to our passion and vision, we have a definitive standard with which we can be in integrity. When we live from our passion and vision, we achieve authentic freedom and responsibility, because now our life becomes truly our own making.

For you who have a vision and live a life of integrity, your passion is your life’s mission. Your knowledge of your passion and vision and your commitment to living a life of integrity, responsibility, and freedom make you a true leader of your organization and of humanity.

Leaders lead. Now it is your time to lead. Be ready to travel the road less traveled. Be ready to travel alone but always with arms open in gratitude to receive others as co-travelers in your visionary journey.
